1. Scope of Service & Public Number Operations

SMSRiver provides web-based temporary virtual telephone numbers and programmatic developer APIs for testing SMS reception, receiving transient verification codes (OTP), and inspecting telephony data.

Public numbers are communal resources. Messages received are displayed in a publicly accessible inbox. SMSRiver makes no guarantee that any individual number will remain active, operational, or capable of receiving messages from every carrier or third-party service.

2. Acceptable Use Policy & Strict Prohibitions

You agree not to use SMSRiver services, numbers, or APIs for any unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful purposes, including but not limited to:

• Conducting illegal financial transactions, money laundering, bank fraud, or sanctions evasion.
• Registering fraudulent accounts to conduct bulk automated spamming, phishing, or identity impersonation.
• Attempting to bypass legal child protection laws, copyright restrictions, or law enforcement investigations.
• Transmitting or receiving messages involving harassment, extortion, hate speech, or unsolicited commercial communications (spam).
• Interfering with, disrupting, or subjecting SMSRiver infrastructure to denial-of-service (DoS) or brute-force requests.

Violating these rules results in immediate permanent IP banning, revocation of developer API credentials, and referral to relevant regulatory bodies and law enforcement authorities.

3. Public Inboxes & User Assumption of Risk

Because public numbers and their incoming messages are freely readable by any internet user, you acknowledge and agree that:

• You must never link a public temporary number to an account containing financial assets, personal health data, confidential business secrets, or government credentials.
• Third parties may view any verification passcode (OTP) delivered to a public inbox and attempt to access accounts registered with that number.
• SMSRiver disclaims all liability for account takeovers, unauthorized logins, or data exposure resulting from your choice to use a public temporary number.

4. Developer API Quotas & Fair Use

Access to SMSRiver REST APIs and Model Context Protocol (MCP) endpoints is subject to rate limiting and fair usage quotas:

Unauthenticated or public endpoints are rate-limited per IP address. Paid developer tiers provide elevated rate limits and isolated virtual numbers. Exceeding tier thresholds triggers standard HTTP 429 Too Many Requests responses. Automated scraping must respect robots.txt and cache-control headers.

5. CTIA Principles & Telecommunications Regulatory Standards

SMSRiver operates in strict accordance with the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA) Messaging Principles and Best Practices, 10DLC (10-Digit Long Code) ecosystem governance, and relevant regional carrier interconnection standards.

6. Limitation of Liability & "As-Is" Warranty Disclaimer

SMSRIVER AND ITS OPERATORS PROVIDE ALL SERVICES, WEBSITES, APIS, AND PHONE NUMBERS ON AN "AS-IS" AND "AS-AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.

IN NO EVENT SHALL SMSRIVER OR ADSTIM LLC BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA LOSS, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE.

7. Changes to Terms & Contact Information

We reserve the right to modify these Terms of Service at any time. Updated terms take effect immediately upon posting to this URL. Continued use of SMSRiver indicates acceptance of revised terms.
